How to crack Group Discussion A session on ‘How to crack Group Discussion’ was conducted on 5th October 2019 in Classroom No. 11, 4th floor SJCHS building. Mr. Nishant Mahadeshwar was the Facilitator for the Seminar. The seminar was attended by 34 students from B.Sc (I.T.) . The motive of the seminar was to conduct a group discussion among the students, to observe their personality and skills, ability to discuss on the given subject and to guide them on how to take part in Group Discussions. The session opened with the ‘Self Introduction’ of students. Continuing with the training, Mr. Nishant gave a topic to the students to involve into group discussion. The topic given was“ Your view on Article 370” The students were given 2 minutes to think over the topic before beginning with the discussion. The group discussion lasted for about 15-20 minutes. The highlights of the discussion are as follows: 1. There was an initiator who was also a dominator in the group. 2. The group discussion was in English as well as Hindi both Languages. 3. There were few silent observers who didn’t involve in discussion. 4.Some students were fumbling for vocabulary. 5.Students could highlight many important facts and figures pertaining to the topic. 6.Students were unable to understand the topic properly. 7.Lastly nobody could summarize the topic The session opened with the types of GD i.e. 1. Factual based 2. Controversial 3. Abstract 4.Case-based The main focus of Mr. Nishant was on the positive task roles in a GD. Few such roles are mentioned below 1.Initiator 2.Opinion giver/seeker 3.Information giver/seeker 4.Clarifier 5.Energizer 6.Social Supporter 7.Gatekeeper 8.Summarizer He emphasized that performing a positive role will have a good impact on the interviewer. He also warned them to not to be involved in negative roles like 1.Being disgruntle 2.Attacker 3.Dominator 4.Clown Mr. Nishant suggested students to use quotes, facts, figures, definitions, statistics, shocking statements, short story or general statement in the discussion. He gave hints on how to enter a GD midway and ideas to silent members on how to enter a GD. He also gave importance on the non-verbal communication i.e. body language by which attitudes and feelings are communicated. Lastly he tried to draw attention of the students to summarize and conclude the GD highlighting all the important points’ discussed by the group. Concluding the session Mr. Nishant advised the students to read newspapers and enlist three local, national and global news each which shall help them to be aware of the current news in the world.

Disaster Management Workshop

Disaster Management Workshop Date:  30th Sept. 2019 Participants:  Students of St. John Technical Campus, NSS units (SJCEM, SJIPR, SJCHS) Time:  10:00 am to 1:30 pm Total Participants:  200 Volunteers (NSS and Non NSS Volunteers) St. John Technical Campus – NSS Units, St. John College of Engineering and Management, St. John Institute of Pharmacy and Research, St. John College of Humanities and Sciences, NSS Units in Association with Disaster Management Cell, Collector office Palghar District, and National Disaster Response Force, Pune (NDRF) took an initiative to create an awareness about Natural and Man made Disasters and Security to be taken by all faculty Members and students. Honourable Dr. Kailash Shinde – The Collector of Palghar District was the Chief Guest for this event. Dr. Savita Tauro (Deputy Campus Director of St. John Technical campus and Principal of St. John Institute of Pharmacy and Research, Palghar) presented a bouquet to Dr. Shinde as a token of welcome, love and gratitude. The program was also graced by Mr. Sanjay Jadhav (Residential Deputy Collector, Palghar District), Mr. Vivekanand Kadam (Disaster Management officer, Palghar District), Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma (NDRF, Sub-Inspector, Pune. The Management of Aldel Education Trust and the Principal of various Institutes and NDRF staff of Pune District were also present to grace this event. The Introductory speech was given by Ms.Pankti Shah (NSS Volunteer of SJCHS). She also welcomed the Guests and other Dignitaries. At the outset, all participants and officers took oath and paid tribute of Latur Disaster which took place on 30th Sept 1993. The Honourable Chief Guest Dr. Kailash Shinde briefed the details of Disaster and major role of youth generation and the role of the institute in the awareness of Disaster Management. He also appealed to all NSS Volunteers to take training and Practical demonstration on Disaster management by NDRF Team. Even he appealed NSS Volunteers to vote in Nation’s election assembly. Later on, NDRF Team guided some practical tips of Natural and Man Made Disaster Management. They offered practical demonstration on training of First Aid, CPR methods, Rescue during floods, Building collapse situation how to save your lives and others also. The Seminar was coordinated by Mr. K. K. Shetty (General Manager- St. John Technical Campus) and NSS Unit of the Campus. A vote of thanks was proposed by V.R. Patil (HR Manager, St. John Technical Campus, Palghar). The seminar was concluded successfully with a Theme: “Save life of Yours and others”.

World Tourism Day​

world tourism day​ The students of St. John College of Humanities & Sciences, Department of Hotel Management organised an event “World Tourism Day” on the 27th of September 2019. The event was held under the Canopy in front of Aldel Restaurant. The main aim of this event was to give an experience of different Indian Regional Cuisine to the students and faculty of the Campus at a very reasonable rate. The event was inaugurated at 12 noon by Dr. Savita Tauro, Principal of Pharmacy College and Dy.Campus Director by cutting the ribbon. All the other dignitaries like Mr.V.R.Patil, HR Manager, Mr.Karunakar Shetty, General Manager, Mr. Govind Asne, I/C Principal, Sr.Hilda, Administrator and all the staff and students of the College were present to witness the inaugural ceremony. Ranjan Sharma, student of HS department spoke about Tourism Industry and its importance in the life of Hotel Management students. Stalls were opened with the first entry of the dignitiaries and the service was continued till 2.30 pm. Menu Set-Up: Mr.Omkar Chavan, head of House Keeping department Co-ordinated the show with the help of other faculty members and HS students. The menu was divided into four parts as per the region. Four stalls were put up under the canopy to display the menu. The menu’s were displayed as follows: 1. North Indian Menu – This menu was named as Bhaiyaji ka Dhaba. This menu contained thandai, balusahi and litti and choka. 2. South Indian Menu – named as Chennai Express. This menu was served with chana dal, payasam, neer dosa, chicken and podi idli. 3. Maharashtrian Menu – named as Aamchi Marathi. This menu included coconut burfi (Narlachi wadi), Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian gravy, wada and kokam sharbat. 4. Gujarathi Menu – named as Taste the Gujarath. This menu was offered with mungdal kichidi, Undhiyo, patra and basundi. It was observed by the management that every stall decoration was matching with the place and the menu was prepared accordingly. Each and every stall put up their best to prepare the variety and tasty food. The management appreciated the hard efforts of the staff and students of Hotel management. This event helped the students to plan, organize and execute the man power and the capital. A good number of staff and students of other institutes also participated and tasted the food and expressed their appreciation. Finally the HS students and staff were happy to wind up the tourism day successfully.

Yuva Mahiti Doot Awareness Programme

Yuva Mahiti Doot Awareness Programme Participants: NSS Volunteers of St. John Technical Campus NSS units (SJCEM, SJIPR, SJCHS) Resource person : Mr. Pankaj Bharwad and Mr. Avinash Kakad ( Representative, Yuva Mahiti Doot, Anulom NGO) St. John Technical Campus – NSS Units, St. John College of Engineering and Management (SJCEM), St. John Institute of Pharmacy and Research (SJIPR), St. John College of Humanities and Sciences (SJCHS) in Association with Yuva Mahiti Doot had taken an initiative to create an awareness about the various government schemes under Yuva Mahiti Doot Mobile application Awareness programme. The Directorate General of Information and Public Relations, with the support of UNICEF and active participation of Higher and Technical Education Department has started ‘Yuva Mahiti Doot’ initiative. The purpose of this initiative is to increase volunteerism among youths and to disseminate information about various Government schemes directly to the prospective beneficiaries through students at graduate and postgraduate level in different streams in colleges all over Maharashtra. Mr. Pankaj Bharwad and Mr. Avinash Kakad ( Representative, Yuva Mahiti Doot, Anulom NGO) were the Chief Guests of the Programme. Mr. Sachin Urade (NSS Programme Officer, SJCEM), Mr. Sachin Gawali (NSS Programme officer, SJCHS), Ms. Sonam Yadav (NSS Programme officer, SJCEM) were present for this Programme. The introductory speech was given by Ms. Jagruti Goswami (NSS volunteer) who also welcomed the guests. The programme was started by Mr. Pankaj Bharwad by giving information of Yuva Mahiti Doot Application and Awareness about the various government schemes. All Volunteers attended the demo of Yuva Mahiti Doot Mobile application and Process of Registration. All Volunteers registered their names in Yuva Mahiti Doot Mobile app with the help of NSS Programme officers. Total 98 girls volunteers participated in this programme. Ms. Himali Trivedi, NSS volunteer proposed the vote of thanks to all.

Goods Collection Drive

Goods Collection Drive Date: 15th to 18th August 2019 Time: 8:30 am to 8:00 pm Participants: NSS Volunteers of St. John Technical Campus NSS units (SJCEM, SJIPR, SJCHS) Venue: Mount View Supermarket, St. John Commercial Complex, Palghar St. John Technical Campus – NSS Units, St. John College of Engineering and Management (SJCEM), St. John Institute of Pharmacy and Research (SJIPR), St. John College of Humanities and Sciences (SJCHS) in association with Pintania offset PVT. LTD and Mountview supermarket took an initiative to create an awareness about the Clothes Collection drive. The Drive was planned for three days during the Independence Day week i.e 15th to 18th August 2019. The purpose of this activity to donate articles which are in good condition to be handed over to the villagers and kids of adopted villages of NSS units & rain affected villages at Palghar – district. Clothes (Pant/ Shirt / Saree/ Salwar/ Bedsheet), Utensils (Stainless steel / Aluminium), Laptop, LCD – Monitor, Desktop & Newspaper can be accepted in this drive. Mr. Alridge Dsouza (Member, Aldel Education Trust) and Mr. Jude Lobo (Commercial Manager, St. John Commercial Complex, Palghar) have put forward the idea of this drive.Total 98 volunteers participated from SJCEM, SJIPR, SJCHS Institutes. Mr. Sachin Urade (NSS Programme Officer, SJCEM), Mr. Sachin Gawali (NSS Programme officer, SJCHS), Ms. Sonam Yadav (NSS Programme officer, SJCEM) were present in this drive. There was huge response from local public of Palghar. Details of total collection is as mentioned further:- *Net Clothes : 2783 , *Net E- Waste – 1.28 kgs, *Net Newspaper – 54.27 kgs . 181 total visitors donated goods for this noble cause. Collected goods are kept ready for the future donation drive in adopted areas. The Drive was coordinated by Mr. Sachin Urade and his team of NSS Programme officers of St. John Technical Campus – NSS Units. St. John Technical Campus encourages students to have such kind of events in campus and outside the campus which creates social awareness among students and develop their personalities.
