Guru Purnima Celebration

Guru Purnima Celebration Guru Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Ashadh of the Hindu Calendar to pay our homage to the lineage of spiritual masters. It coincides with the holy birthday of Shri Ved Vyas, the compiler of 4 Veda & 18 Purans. This year, the pious day fell on 16th July, 2019 as per English Calendar. On this sacred day of Guru Purnima, the Literary Club of St. John College of Humanities & Sciences celebrated this day with all the teaching & non-teaching staff of the college. Both the teaching and non-teaching staff were welcomed in the Hindu ritual style of applying ‘Tilak’ to the forehead. Handcrafted roses were gifted to all the faculty members as a token of love from students. Sister Hilda Albuquerque (Administrative Head) was the Chief Guest and she graced the event showering a lot of appreciation for the students for their respect for the teachers. The student members of the Literary Club hosted the event with great enthusiasm. Rueben Alwa (SYBMS) & Naman Kherodiya (SYBCom.) were the speakers of the event. The event started with St. Francis prayer. Shristi Anand (SYBBI) gave a speech on the significance of this auspicious day, starting with the hymn of ‘Gurur Bramha’. An amusing game was arranged for all the faculty members where they were required to use their imagination to construct a story based on the stuffs that were especially assorted for them. While the participating faculty members took on the challenge of the game and spouted funny and interesting stories, all others laughed and were regaled listening to their stories. The inspiration of this game came to the students through the club’s vision and mission of ‘Carving Creative Persona’ wherein the students will develop their thinking capabilities. No doubt, the students really racked their mind in thinking of a game that would be suitable for the faculty members. And the staff also responded with equal enthusiasm by involving themselves in the exercise in imagination. Lastly, the festivity ended with the vote of thanks by Prabhakar Prajapati (SY BSc. HS)
