academic tour/visit to bombay high court museum St. John College of Humanities & Sciences, Department of Commerce has organized an Academic/Study Tour/Visit organised on 23rd August,2019 for SYBAF/FYBMS students at the Bombay High Cout Museum, Mumbai . The major objective of the academic tour/ visit was to create awareness about the functions of Bombay High Court. In order to create interest among the students regarding law and legal system such visit is must. In the Bombay High Court Museum, Mumbai total 79 students visited. The interiors of the museum are designed exactly like a court room. We were amazed at how well the space has been curated- with old legal rolls, portraits of the advocates and a minuscule model of the Bombay High Court in a corner. We found Barrister M.K Gandhi’s certificate from the year 1891, and his application to study law dating back to 1890s. Vallabhbhai Patel’s certificates and degree were displayed alongside too. Walk straight up ahead and you will find yourself time-travelling to a court room from 1900 that was modeled after the 20th century court room. Everything had a very British feel attached to it- the wooden chairs, tables, a feather ink pen and a vintage typewriter, ‘Mignon 1905’. To top it off, we found a British advocate’s gown, wig and box displayed safely inside a glass door. The walls of the museum are bearers of portraits and informative charts that recollect the rich and intertwined Indo-British legal history. We were completely in awe of the museum. It was almost like we discovered a secret door to the world of old judicial legal documents and the British era. It’s a fitting museum for anyone who a) is intrigued by the legal history b) loves the sprawling Victorian architecture of the Bombay High Court.

academic tour/visit to reserve bank of india, museum St. John College of Humanities & Sciences, Department of Commerce has organized an Academic/Study Tour/Visit organised on Friday, 21st August, 2019 for SYBBI/FYBA/SYBA students at the Reserve Bank of India Museum, Mumbai . The major objective of the academic tour/ visit was to create awareness about the functions of Reserve Bank of India. In order to create interest among the students regarding financial and monetary system such visit is must. In the Reserve Bank of India Museum, Mumbai total 32 students visited. RBI Monetary Museum is a unique museum set up by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) – the most important financial institution of the country. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam – the former President of India, inaugurated the museum in 2004. It aims at depicting the evolution of money in the Indian subcontinent, right from the ancient days of barter system to the present era of plastic money. There are various galleries in the museum where coins, paper money and other monetary artefacts are preserved. Those interested in numismatics would be fascinated on exploring the rich monetary collection of this museum. The coinage section here has a huge assortment of coins that range from 6th century BC to present day. Evolution of paper money and financial instruments is explained in this museum through the display of currency notes, paper bonds and certificates. Visitors can also see important anecdotes, bank seals and other related things. There are special kiosks in the RBI Monetary Museum which provide information about currencies in an interesting way. Visitors coming to the museum can buy souvenirs like posters on currency and coins, greeting cards and postcards.
