The Department of Banking and Insurance of SJCHS organized a special program to commemorate *Bank Nationalisation Day* on 19th July 2025. The event aimed to create awareness among students about the significance of bank nationalisation in India’s economic development and to highlight its impact on the growth of the nation.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Jinal Shah, Head of the Department, who briefed the audience about the historic decision taken on 19th July 1969, when 14 major banks were nationalised by the Government of India under the leadership of the then Prime Minister, Smt. Indira Gandhi. The objective was to ensure equitable distribution of credit and to strengthen the rural economy.
This was followed by a brief introduction delivered by Principal Dr. Muktha Jacob , who explained the importance of nationalisation in promoting financial inclusion, supporting small-scale industries, and reducing the dominance of private entities in the banking sector.
A debate competition on: topic was conducted by Mrs. Jinal Shah. A total of 3 teams participated.
The department had conducted following 4 competitions:
1. Debate Competition: Digital banking v/s physical banking. 1st prize Rs. 1000 won by Team Chinmaya Jr. College
2. Postar-Making Competition: Bank Nationalisation and its impact. 1st prize Rs. 1000 won by Team TVM Jr. College, 2nd Prize Rs.750 won by TVM Jr. College and 3rd Prize Rs. 500 won by TVM Jr. College
3. T-Shirt Painting Competition: Ek Bank- Sapne Anek. 1st prize Rs. 1000 won by Chinmaya Jr. College. 2nd Prize Rs.750 won by Chinmaya Jr. College and 3rd Prize Rs. 500 won by Chinmaya Jr. College
4. Quiz Competition: General Question on Banking Sector. 1st prize Rs. 1000 won by SJJC Jr. College, 2nd Prize Rs.750 won by SJJC Jr. College, 3rd Prize Rs. 500 won by TVM Jr. College
A total of 66 students have participated in the event.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Vidhi Dani , Faculty incharge of Department of BBI,who expressed gratitude towards the faculty, students, and guests for making the program a success.
Overall, the celebration of Bank Nationalisation Day not only enriched the knowledge of students but also inspired them to appreciate the pivotal role of banking reforms in shaping India’s economy.
