Department of Arts  organised a Reel- Making Activity on 28-January-2026 from 11am to 12pm at Classroom No. 407 in SJIPR Building to the Students of the department of Arts from St. John College of Humanities and Sciences. The resource person was Mr.  Sagar Kolhe from Media Team, Printannia Offset Limited

Objectives:
●    To make students aware of the significance of reel making as a powerful medium for creative expression and communication in the digital age.
●    To provide students with hands-on experience in using digital tools and applications for creating, editing, and publishing short video content.
●    To develop professional skills related to digital media, content creation, and visual storytelling, preparing students for emerging career opportunities in media, marketing, and communication fields.

Target  Audience: Students of the department of Arts from St. John College of Humanities and Sciences 

Methodology: 
1.    Orientation and Conceptual Briefing
 The activity commenced with an orientation session where the resource person introduced the concept of reel making, explaining its relevance in digital communication, creative expression, and contemporary media practices.
2.    Demonstration of Digital Tools and Techniques
 A live demonstration was conducted to familiarize students with mobile-based applications and basic techniques related to shooting, framing, editing, transitions, sound selection, and publishing short video reels.
3.    Hands-on Practical Training
 Students actively participated in a guided reel creation workshop, applying the demonstrated techniques to create their own reels, thereby enhancing experiential learning and creative engagement.
4.    Interactive Learning and Mentorship
 Continuous interaction between the resource person and students was encouraged through real-time feedback, clarification of doubts, and suggestions for improving content quality and visual storytelling.
5.    Screening, Evaluation, and Feedback
 The created reels were screened, followed by constructive evaluation based on creativity, content relevance, and technical quality, enabling students to reflect on their learning outcomes and improve their digital media skills.

Outcomes:
1.    Students developed a clear understanding of reel making as an effective medium for digital communication and creative expression.

2.    Participants acquired hands-on experience in using digital tools and applications for creating and editing short video content.

3.    The activity enhanced students’ creativity, visual storytelling abilities, and confidence in presenting ideas through digital media.

4.    Students gained exposure to emerging career opportunities in media, content creation, marketing, and communication fields through practical learning.

 

 

SWOT Analysis of the Event:

Strengths:
1.    The event provided hands-on practical exposure to reel making, enhancing students’ digital media and creative skills.

2.    Guidance from an industry professional enriched the learning experience with real-world insights and practical techniques.

Weaknesses:
1.    Students could not utilize ready-made video content for editing practice as they did not bring pre-recorded material.

2.    Limited time duration restricted deeper exploration of advanced editing features and techniques.

Opportunities:
1.    The activity opened avenues for students to explore careers in digital media, content creation, and visual storytelling.

2.    Students gained foundational skills that can be further developed through future workshops and interdisciplinary projects.

Threats:
1.    Students may get distracted due to mobile phone usage and social media notifications during the activity.

2.    Technical issues such as device compatibility or application limitations could affect smooth participation.
