16th National Voter’s Day Celebrated

The Literary Club and IQAC of St. John College of Humanities and Sciences (Autonomous) successfully organized the 16th National Voter’s Day on Friday, 23rd January 2026, with the objective of creating awareness among students about the importance of voting as a fundamental democratic right and civic responsibility.
The programme began with an introductory address by the Convener, Dr. Vijay Songire, who explained the significance of National Voter’s Day, the reasons for its celebration, and the vital role of youth in strengthening democracy through informed participation in the electoral process. Two student participants delivered a speech in which they shared important information about history, significance of National Voters’ Day, importance of voting, challenges to voter participation.
Two informative videos were screened to educate students about the history of National Voter’s Day, voter registration procedures, and the functioning of the Indian electoral system. These visual presentations helped students gain a clearer understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens. This was followed by the Reading of the Voter’s Pledge, in which all participants took a collective pledge to uphold democratic values and participate responsibly in elections.
An interactive session on the Importance of Voting was conducted, during which students actively engaged in discussion and shared their views on democratic participation. Mr. Debashish Vakil, Head of the department of Hospitality Studies ( St. John College of Humanities and Sciences) addressed the gathering and shared valuable insights on ethical voting, informed decision-making, and the role of young voters in nation building. An Online Quiz was also organized to assess students’ awareness of electoral processes and constitutional provisions related to voting. The quiz generated enthusiastic participation and reinforced learning in an engaging manner.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Vijay Songire, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, organizing committee members, and students for their active participation and cooperation. The programme was formally concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
The celebration of National Voter’s Day proved to be informative and inspiring, motivating students to become responsible and aware citizens of the nation
