Onam Culinary Challenge Celebrated

The Department of Hospitality Studies organized the Onam Culinary Challenge on 24 August 2026, from 12.00 p.m. to 2.30 p.m., at the SJCHS Building Restaurant. The event was attended by students from First Year, Second Year, and Third Year Hospitality Studies.

The challenge celebrated the rich cultural and culinary traditions of Onam, with students preparing and presenting traditional and innovative Onam-inspired dishes. The activity provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their culinary skills, creativity, teamwork, menu planning, food presentation, and professional service techniques while maintaining appropriate standards of hygiene, sanitation, and food safety.

The dishes were evaluated by three invited judges on parameters including taste, presentation, originality, authenticity, hygiene, portioning, and overall quality. Students also explained their menus, ingredients, preparation methods, and the inspiration behind their dishes, receiving valuable professional feedback from the judges.

The creative presentation and variety of dishes were among the highlights of the event. The collaborative atmosphere, healthy competition, and opportunity to combine traditional Kerala cuisine with innovative ideas were particularly appreciated.

The Onam Culinary Challenge successfully provided students with a meaningful practical learning experience, while fostering cultural appreciation, culinary creativity, teamwork, confidence, and professional hospitality skills. The enthusiastic participation of the students contributed significantly to the success of the event.
