Hands-On SPSS Workshop Organised by the Department of Arts

The Department of Arts successfully organized a hands-on workshop on Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) on 29th August 2026, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., for S.Y.B.A. and T.Y.B.A. students.

The 90-minute interactive session focused on developing practical data analysis skills and familiarizing students with the core SPSS interface. Participants received hands-on training in Variable View and Data View, including defining measurement levels, labels and missing values, as well as entering and managing raw survey data.

Students also practiced computing descriptive statistics such as mean, median and standard deviation, and generating graphical representations including histograms and bar charts. The workshop combined live demonstrations with real-time exercises on individual workstations, ensuring active participation throughout the session.

A notable feature of the workshop was the peer collaboration between T.Y.B.A. and S.Y.B.A. students, with final-year students mentoring their second-year peers during the practical exercises. The session successfully enhanced students’ confidence in using SPSS for academic projects and research methodology.

The positive response to the workshop highlighted the students’ keen interest in empirical research tools. An advanced follow-up session covering inferential statistics, including t-tests, ANOVA and Regression Analysis, was recommended for later in the semester.
