National Librarians’ Day Celebrated with Rare Books Exhibition

The Library of St. John College of Humanities and Sciences (Autonomous), Palghar, celebrated National Librarians’ Day on 12th August 2026 at the College Library to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India.

The programme was attended by Dr. Muktha Jacob, Principal, Ms. Supriya Kore, Librarian, faculty members, staff members, and students. Dr. Muktha Jacob inaugurated the programme by garlanding the portrait of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan and lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Supriya Kore highlighted the significance of National Librarians’ Day and Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s invaluable contribution to the development of library science and library services in India.

A Rare Books Exhibition was also organized in the College Library, showcasing a collection of rare and valuable books and offering students and faculty an opportunity to explore their historical and academic significance.

The celebration aimed to promote awareness of the vital role of libraries in education, learning, research, and knowledge creation, while encouraging the effective use of library resources. The programme received a positive response from the college community and served as a meaningful tribute to the contribution of librarians.
