Introduction: The Department of BBI and BFM of St. John College of Humanities and Sciences organized a field visit to Karnataka Bank, Palghar Branch, on 19 January 2026 for the students of FYBBI and FYBFM. The visit was organized with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to the functioning of a commercial bank and to help them understand real-world banking operations beyond classroom learning. Such visits play an important role in enhancing students’ practical knowledge and professional awareness.
Objectives of the Field Visit
• The primary objective of organizing the field visit was to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts taught in the classroom and their practical implementation in the banking industry.
• The visit aimed to provide students with first-hand knowledge of how a bank functions on a day-to-day basis.
• The visit also aimed to familiarize students with the organizational structure of a bank and the roles and responsibilities of bank employees.
• It also provided students with an opportunity to interact with banking professionals and gain insights into career opportunities in banking and financial services.
Details of the Field Visit
The students reported to the college at the regular lecture time and were accompanied by faculty to Karnataka Bank, Palghar Branch. On arrival at the bank, the students were welcomed by the bank officials. The officials gave an informative briefing about the functioning of different departments within the branch.
The students were introduced to various banking activities such as account opening procedures, types of deposit accounts, loan processing, and customer service practices. The officials also explained the importance of documentation, verification, and compliance with banking norms and regulations.
