Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office in collaboration with St. John Technical and Educational Campus, Palghar organised Inauguration of the Standards Club at St. John College of Humanities & Sciences (Autonomous) held on 10th October 2025. Mrs. Namrata N Jha is the mentor of the Club

Introduction: The Inauguration of the Standards Club was successfully conducted on Friday, 10th October 2025, at St. John Technical and Educational Campus, Palghar, in collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
The establishment of the Standards Club marks a significant step towards promoting quality consciousness, standardization, safety, and consumer awareness among students and stakeholders. The initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, emphasizing collaboration between academic institutions and national standard-setting bodies.


Objectives of the Standards Club

The primary objectives of the Standards Club are:
● To create awareness about Indian Standards (IS) and BIS certification
● To promote a culture of quality, safety, and reliability
● To encourage student participation in standardization activities
● To sensitize young minds about consumer rights and responsibilities
● To strengthen industry–academia–government collaboration


Inaugural Programme Highlights: The inaugural programme commenced in the morning with the presence of representatives from Bureau of Indian Standards, Mumbai Branch Office, faculty members, students, and institutional stakeholders.

The programme highlighted:
● The importance of standards in daily life, industry, education, and national development
● The role of BIS in ensuring quality, safety, and trust in products and services
● The relevance of standards in innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness

The inauguration formally marked the launch of the Standards Club, which will act as a platform for organizing:
● Awareness programmes
● Workshops and expert talks
● Quality walks
● Student-led standardization activities
● Stakeholders meet
● Industry Stalls, BIS Laboratory demonstration, Standard Club Exhibition, interactive sessions on the Role of Standards , Knowledge sharing  


Quality Walk Initiative: As part of the Standards Club activities, a “Quality Walk” was organized on the same day from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM within the campus premises. The walk witnessed enthusiastic participation from:
● Students
● Faculty members
● Industry representatives
● Consumer organization members
● General public

The Quality Walk aimed to spread the message of “Quality, Trust, and Innovation” and emphasized the importance of adopting standards in everyday life. Participants carried placards and slogans promoting quality awareness and BIS standards, reinforcing the idea that quality is a shared responsibility.

Participation and Engagement: The programme saw active participation from students across disciplines, faculty members, and external stakeholders. The registration process was facilitated through a QR code-based system, ensuring systematic documentation and wider outreach.
The event successfully fostered community engagement and collaborative learning, strengthening the bond between BIS and the academic institution.

Outcome of the Programme: The inauguration of the Standards Club resulted in:
● Enhanced awareness about BIS and standardization
● Increased student interest in quality-related initiatives
● Strengthened institutional collaboration with BIS
● Promotion of quality culture and consumer awareness
● A strong foundation for future standards-related academic and outreach activities

Conclusion: The Inauguration of the Standards Club at St. John College of Humanities & Sciences was a meaningful and impactful initiative towards nurturing a quality-driven mindset among students and stakeholders. The collaboration with the Bureau of Indian Standards reflects the institution’s commitment to excellence, sustainability, and national development goals.
