The Department of B.Com, in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), organized a 30Hour Value Added Certificate Course titled “Train, Earn & Learn” for FYBCOM students was from 18th August 2025 to 26th August 2025.

The Department of B.Com, in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), organized a certificate course titled “Train, Earn & Learn” for FYBCOM students. The programme was conducted from 18th to 26th August 2025 through Zoom meetings, with the physical venue arranged at SJIPR, 4th Floor. The course was designed to enhance students’ academic learning with practical exposure, blending technical, professional, and soft skill development.

The first day of the course, held on 18th August 2025, consisted of two sessions. The morning session, conducted by CA Foram Shah, focused on Business Communication. Students were introduced to the importance of effective verbal and non-verbal communication in professional life, with guidance on active listening, digital communication platforms such as Skype and email, and strategies for overcoming communication barriers.

In the afternoon, CA Kunjal Shah delivered a session on Personality Development. The session emphasized self-awareness, networking skills, personality branding, and confident body language, beginning with interactive activities that encouraged reflection on personal experiences. Together, these sessions laid the foundation for the programme by equipping students with essential communication and interpersonal skills.

On 20th August 2025, the second day of the course was conducted online due to heavy rainfall. CA Dharmesh Kakkad delivered a comprehensive session on E-Filing under Income Tax. Students were introduced to the fundamentals of the Income Tax Act, including heads of income, non-taxable income, and tax planning. Key concepts such as TDS, e-TDS, TCS, advance tax, and self-assessment tax were explained with clarity. A live demonstration of the official e-filing portal provided participants with hands-on experience of filing Income Tax Returns, which enhanced their practical understanding of compliance procedures.

The third day, held on 21st August 2025, was led by CA Zainab Lokhandwala, who conducted a session on Tally Accounting. Students were introduced to Tally Prime, its features, navigation, and commands. The session advanced into creating masters, passing accounting entries, inventory management, GST compliance, and the generation of MIS and financial reports. The highly practical approach gave students valuable exposure to professional accounting practices and the integration of technology in financial management.

On 22nd August 2025, the fourth day of the course was dedicated to Goods and Services Tax (GST), with CA Ashish Agarwal as the resource person. The session offered an in-depth study of the GST framework, covering its features, B2B and B2C transactions, and its nature as a destination-based tax. Students learned about GST registration requirements, including Sections 22 and 23, as well as compulsory registration procedures. Detailed attention was given to Input Tax Credit, GST payments, and the filing of returns. Practical examples provided during the session helped bridge theoretical concepts with real-life application.

The fifth day, on 23rd August 2025, returned to the guidance of CA Zainab Lokhandwala, this time focusing on Microsoft Excel as an audit tool and analysis instrument. The session began with Excel basics, including data entry, formatting, and worksheet management, before progressing to advanced tools such as formulas, lookup functions, statistical calculations, and conditional formatting. Students were also trained in sorting, filtering, and analyzing large datasets. The session proved impactful as it not only strengthened technical knowledge of Excel but also highlighted its application in auditing and financial analysis, equipping learners with digital skills essential in the modern workplace.

On 25th August 2025, the sixth day of the programme, students benefitted from two sessions. The morning session, led by CA Priyanka Jain, was devoted to Social and Business Etiquette. Emphasis was placed on etiquette in personal, professional, and business contexts, including meetings, interviews, telephone, and email communication. The afternoon session, conducted by CA Chirag Jain, focused on Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) under the Income Tax Act. Students gained knowledge of its scope, applicability, compliance requirements, and due dates. They were also guided through the TRACES portal, with demonstrations of filing Form 24Q and 26Q, thereby linking theoretical knowledge with practical procedures.

The programme concluded on 26th August 2025 with an online examination, conducted via Google Forms, consisting of 100 questions. The test was held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Classroom No. 406, SJIPR, 4th Floor, for students who attended in person. The assessment ensured that students’ learning outcomes were measured effectively, marking the successful conclusion of the certificate course.

In summary, the seven-day certificate course successfully integrated academic learning with professional practice, covering areas such as business communication, personality development, income tax compliance, Tally, GST, Excel for auditing, and professional etiquette. It provided students with both soft skills and technical expertise, ensuring a holistic development experience. By aligning with the theme “Train, Earn & Learn,” the course not only enriched students’ academic knowledge but also equipped them with employability skills, thereby preparing them for future professional challenges.
