आवाज” Book Review Competition held on 14th August

The Library Committee of St. John College of Humanities and Sciences (autonomous) organized a Book Review Competition आवाज for the teaching and non-teaching staff in collaboration with IQAC on 14th August, 2025 to commemorate National Librarian’s Day, celebrated in honor of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India.

The event aimed to promote reading habits, encourage intellectual engagement, and provide a platform for staff members to share their perspectives on books that inspire, educate, or entertain. Participants were invited to select any book of their choice and present their review focusing on the content, author’s style, key takeaways, and personal reflections.

The competition was started with the key address given by the principal Dr. Muktha Manoj Jacob who spoke about a brief introduction to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan’s life and contributions to library science, highlighting his Five Laws of Library Science and his enduring influence on modern librarianship.

A total of 15 participants enthusiastically presented their book reviews, covering a variety of genres including literature, biography, history, science, and self-development. The presentations reflected diverse viewpoints and rich literary appreciation, creating a lively and thought-provoking atmosphere. All participants showed high energy and enthusiasm which was a token of the success of the event.

The event concluded with closing remarks by Ms. Anshu Tiwari who encouraged everyone to continue reading and exploring new knowledge resources.

The Book Review Competition not only celebrated National Librarian’s Day but also reinforced the importance of reading as a lifelong habit, in line with Dr. Ranganathan’s vision of libraries as vibrant centres of learning.
