11th International Day of Yoga Day Celebrated
On the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, the NSS Unit of St. John College of Humanities and Sciences organized a special session titled Yoga Sangam, aimed at promoting the practice and philosophy of yoga among students. The event was marked by the presence of renowned yoga trainer Yogaacharya Buddha Ram dewasi, who brought with him over 25 years of experience in yoga training. Assisting him was Ms. Sulbha, an active yoga practitioner and entrepreneur in the catering industry, whose insights added depth to the discussion on yogic diet and routine.
A total of 62 students from the college participated in the session with great enthusiasm. The event commenced with an introduction to the philosophical roots of yoga, wherein Yogaacharya Buddha Ramdevasi highlighted the significance of yoga as not merely a physical activity but as a discipline that integrates the mind, body, and spirit. He elaborated on the eightfold path of yoga and how its principles remain relevant in today’s fast-paced world.
The session then moved on to the medicinal and therapeutic applications of yoga, where students were educated about the benefits of yoga in managing common lifestyle-related ailments such as stress, hypertension, and poor posture. The trainer emphasized the role of consistent yogic practice in maintaining both mental and physical well-being.
A unique feature of the session was the focus on daily routines and healthy habits from a yogic perspective. Participants were guided through the ideal way to wake up, including grounding practices and breath awareness upon rising. Additionally, Ms. Shilpa provided valuable input on the appropriate time and method of eating meals, drawing from both yogic and nutritional wisdom. She highlighted how food, when consumed mindfully and in the right combinations, can significantly enhance mental clarity and physical health.
The theoretical discussion was complemented with a practical yoga session, where students were led through a sequence of warm-ups, basic asanas, pranayama, and guided meditation. The instructors ensured that every participant performed the postures correctly, offering real-time corrections and advice for improving flexibility, balance, and breathing.
Overall, Yoga Sangam proved to be an enlightening and holistic experience for the students. The session successfully instilled a deeper appreciation of yoga as a comprehensive lifestyle practice. Many students shared that they felt inspired to adopt at least some yogic practices in their daily lives, recognizing their potential to foster inner calm and resilience.
The NSS Unit concluded the event on a positive note, expressing gratitude to the resource persons and the enthusiastic participants. Yoga Sangam not only celebrated the International Day of Yoga but also ignited a spark towards long-term wellness and mindfulness among the youth.
