Elocution Competition

Literary Club of St. John College of Humanities & Sciences organized an Elocution Competition in English, Hindi and Marathi for the students of all the courses of the college. The objective of this competition was to encourage students to express their awareness about the contemporary issues of the Indian society and develop confidence in public speaking. The students were required to prepare their speeches for 3-4 minutes on the topics which were given to them in advance. The topics were:
Topics :
English

  • If I were the Prime Minister of India
  • Status of Women in India
  • Technology; Boon or Bane for human life?

Hindi

  • अगर मैं भारत का प्रधानमंत्री होता…
  • भारतीय महिलाओं की सामाजिक स्थिति
  • टेक्नोलॉजी-मानव जीवन के लिए वरदान या अभिशाप

Marathi

  • मी भारताचा पंतप्रधान झालो तर…
  • भारतीय समाजातील स्त्रीयांचे स्थान
  • मानवी जीवनात आधुनिक तंत्रज्ञान – वरदान की शाप

Sister Hilda Albuquerque, Administrative Head, appreciated all contestants for their interests and participation. She reiterated that such events should be held more so often.

There were total 22 contestants: 15 in English, 3 in Hindi and 4 in Marathi. There were two judges for each language:

English: Mr. Nelson Pereira and Ms. Manasi Walimbe
Hindi: Ms. Anuradha Jaiswal and Dr. Upma Paliwal
Marathi: Mr. Rahul Khachane & Ms. Mrunal Bhoir

Second Position: Achinthya Bhat (FYBBI)
Third Position: Shyamli Sharma (SYBMS)

Hindi:
First Position: Anandeshwar Singh (FYBSC IT)
Second Position: Bhavesh Patel (FYBMS)

Marathi:
First Position: Rakesh Chauhan (TYBMS)
Second Position: Aastha Raut (FYBMS)
