Deeksharambh - First Year Induction Programme

Deeksharambh – Students Induction Programme 2024 at St. John College of Humanities and Sciences

St. John College of Humanities and Sciences (SJCHS) successfully conducted the Deeksharambh – Students Induction Programme for first-year students from 4th July 2024 to 6th July 2024, in accordance with UGC guidelines. The three-day event was meticulously designed to help new students acclimate to their academic and social environment.

Day 1: Departmental Induction

The first day focused on departmental inductions. Each department held sessions in their respective classes, where the Head of Department (HOD) addressed the students. Key points covered included:

  • Department Objectives: The HOD outlined the goals and vision of the department.
  • Activities: An overview of the various activities and events conducted by the department.
  • Subjects: Introduction to the subjects that will be taught during the academic year.
  • Past Achievements: Highlights of the department’s achievements in past years.
  • Plans for the Year: Upcoming plans and initiatives for the academic year.

Students were introduced to their class in-charge and subject professors. The session concluded with team-building activities designed to help students connect with each other and foster a sense of community.

 

Day 2: Inaugural Function

The second day featured the inaugural function in the main hall of the SJCEM building. The event began with a campus prayer, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. Students were then shown a motivational video from the movie “Lakshya.”
The Chairman, Mr. Albert W. Dsouza, and the Principal, Dr. Mukta Manoj Jacob, addressed the students, offering words of encouragement and inspiration. The programme concluded with the national anthem.

 

Day 3: NEP 2020 and College Committees Orientation

The third day was divided into two batches, with sessions focusing on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and an orientation on college committees. During these sessions, students were oriented about the NEP 2020, covering topics such as:

  • Scheme and Pattern: The structure and layout of the new education policy.
  • Subjects and Credits: Information on subject choices and the credit system.

Students were also briefed about the various college committees, including:

  • Statutory Committees
  • NSS (National Service Scheme)
  • DLLE (Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension)
  • Green Club
  • WDC (Women’s Development Cell)
  • Literary Club
  • Student Council
  • Cultural and Sports Committees


The Deeksharambh – Students Induction Programme at SJCEM was a resounding success, effectively introducing new students to their academic environment, departmental activities, college policies, and various opportunities for personal and professional growth.
